5 Fool-Proof Spice Combos

Seasoning your food with herbs and spices is a major key to truly enjoying your food!

Think about it... you probably wouldn't like any of the meals that you are used to, if they weren't flavored with herbs & spices.

Whether its the plant used in its whole form, or in its dehydrated & blended state, plants bring the flavor!

I've learned that some people avoid seasoning their food because they think it will make it less nutrient dense for them... Fortunately, those people are wrong!

All herbs and spices are from plants & can contribute amazing added health benefits to your food.

Some of those benefits include antioxidants, magnesium, iron, potassium, vitamins a, b, c, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, pain relief properties & MUCH more.

Now don't get me wrong, there are some non health promoting "seasonings" out there.

What usually makes these products lesser value than herbs and spices, is that they normally contain sugar, salt, and sometimes other preservatives. So do yourself a favor & flavor your food with "salt free" seasonings.

But I encourage you to focus your attention on herbs and spices! If you're looking for some pre-mixed herbs and spices, look for phrases like "spice blend" & ingredients lists with only herbs and spices listed.

If you're like me when I first started cooking, I was aware that I needed to season my food but had NO idea where to start.

Hopefully this list can be a good jumping off point for you!

I challenge you to try these spice combinations on as many different dishes as you can!

Here are 5 of my Go-To Spice Combinations

Please note, I like to add salt at the end of cooking my meals. This helps to avoid over using it since the flavor of salt quickly cooks out.

Spice combo #1

Cumin + Garlic + Paprika + Nutritional Yeast + Chili Powder (optional)

I typically season peppers & onions +/or grains with this for taco flavors.

If I want it to be spicy, I like to add cayenne pepper, chipotle (aka smoked red jalapeños), &/or hot sauce

Spice combo #2

Garlic + Ginger + Smoked Paprika + Nutritional Yeast (optional)

I typically season veggies with this if I'm going to be eating a veggie & grain, potato or noodle bowl

Spice combo #3

Thyme + Oregano + Garlic + Rosemary (optional) + Black Pepper + Nutritional Yeast (optional) + Basil (optional)

I typically season veggies and/or sauce with this if I'm going to be eating pasta & veggies

If I want it to be spicy, I like to add cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper, &/or hot sauce

Spice combo #4

Cajun + Thyme + Oregano + Garlic + Crushed Red Pepper + Everything Seasoning (optional)

I typically season veggies with this if I'm going to be eating a veggie & grain, potato, or noodle bowl

If you don't want it too spicy, skip the crushed red pepper

Spice combo #5

Cinnamon + Vanilla powder

I typically put this on everything sweet like oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, muffins, coffee drinks & more

Vanilla extract works too however I personally prefer the taste of vanilla powder!

I hope this helps you eat more plants!
